Origins of Creativity: Upper Paleolithic Art after

the ‘Creative Explosion’

Haven’t heard of the Paleolithic ready-made? Wish to learn more about the origins of human creativity? Had no idea ‘Creative Explosion’ made you an artist? Then join me on a journey to

‘3 million years ago station’ and forever change the way you perceive the origins of art.

We will explore the secrets of deep caves so that you can find that fresh breath of inspiration you have been looking for!

The Part 1 presents a general overview of the cognitive groundwork for creativity. It situates us within the famous Cosmic Calendar to give the whole project a broader time perspective. It looks closer at our ability to think abstractly and create mental images using ‘visuospatial sketchpad’.

The Part 2 is about the mystery of the prehistory. It explores symbolic behaviour prior to the emergence of homo sapience as well as Upper Paleolithic art after the ‘Creative Explosion’. It then proceeds to demonstrate that notions of ‘metaphor', ‘awe’ and ‘transformation' constitute the foundation of creative production.

There is a certain romanticism about ethnographic studies describing hunter-gatherer worldview and their relationship with Nature. However, I invite you to take these studies as hints that help reconstruct what was thought and sought by the Upper Palaelithic people. Do not forget: the discussion is open-ended !
